Abstract

786,191. Valves. SMITH & SONS (WOKING), Ltd., A., and ATHERTON, L. Jan. 28, 1955 [Feb. 2, 1954], No. 3118/54. Class 135. Two liquids can be dispensed simultaneously in a beverage dispensing device by means of a conical rotary plug valve 11 which is provided with a diametral passage 20 and a further right-angled passage 19. Passage 20 connects an inlet port 16 with an outlet passage 17 and passage 19 connects a lateral inlet port (not shown) with an outlet passage 15. The proportion of liquid passing through the passage 20 to that passing through the passage 19 can be varied by means of a throttle 28 which projects into the passage 20. The plug is rotated by means of a handle 22 and is held in adjusted position by means of a spring-pressed ball 32 co-operating with recesses in the casing of the valve. An alternative handle consists of a yoke 36 with its arms embracing the two ends of the plug. As a container is placed underneath the outlets 17, 19, it pushes the yoke on one side and sets the valve to the delivery position.
