Abstract
785,831. Copy-grinding. DIAMETAL AKT.- GES. Jan. 26,1955 [Feb. 5, 1954], No. 2274/55. Class 60. In a copy-grinding machine, a workholder 122 is carried by a slidable plate 51 displaceable in accordance with the translatory movements of a tracer 69 relatively to and in the plane of a template 68, and a grinding wheel 32 is displaceable about an axis tangential to its periphery by and in accordance with angular movements of the tracer. The grinding wheel 32 may be adjusted in two mutually perpendicular directions in the horizontal plane and reciprocated vertically with respect to a slide 21 by a connecting rod 14 and a crank 13 driven by a cord 10 from a pivotally mounted motor 5 and an adjustable variable speed gear. The grinding wheel is also adapted to pivot about fixed centres 15, 16 in sympathy with the pivotal movement of the tracer 69 to which it is coupled by a parallel motion linkage 76 to 83. A second motor 35 drives the grinding wheel 32 through a pair of pulleys 38, 39 and a bodily-rotatable assembly of four pulleys 45 to 48 which permits the grinding wheel to pivot freely on the centres 15, 16. Two links 80, 81 of the parallel motion linkage are pivotally connected to a strap 87 which is pivotally supported by a pair of rollers 91 arranged to run in a guide 92 bolted to the plate 51. The tracer 69 is adjustably clamped in a vertical guide 70 on a pantograph 96 to 99 connected to the plate 51 by an adjustable pivot 100 and to a second pantograph 102 to 105 which has an adjustable pivot 112 located in a bearing in alignment with the centres 15, 16 and an adjustable pivot 113 which is held by an eye 114 in an arm 115 secured to the plate 51. The positions of the pivots 112 and 113 with respect to the arms 104 and 105 of the second pantograph determine the reduction ratio. The workpiece 128 is mounted on a spindle provided with a ratchet wheel 129 and two pawls 130 for indexing purposes while the spindle itself is mounted in slides which enable it to be adjusted with respect to the member 51. The template 68 may also be adjusted with respect to this member by bolts 67 and slots 66 and slides 57 and 62. An optical device 134 mounted on guide means 133 facilitates inspection of the work. In operation, the plate 51, and hence the workpiece 128, move in the opposite direction to, but through a smaller distance than, the tracer. Specification 785,832 is referred to.
