Abstract
785,319. Casting composite articles. SHEEPBRIDGE STOKES, Ltd. Nov. 8, 1955 [Jan. 27, 1955], No. 2496/55. Class 83 (1). In the centrifugal casting of pipes, a preformed annulus or collar 5 is supported within the mould 1, said annulus having a maximum diameter less than the internal diameter of the mould, or having slots or openings, or both, whereby the casting metal can flow from one side of the annulus to the other, causing its peripheral margin to be embedded in the cast metal. One or both ends of the mould is fitted with an end plate 2, either or both of which has a tubular extension 3 through which a pouring-spout 4 is introduced, and upon which the annulus 5 may be mounted. The annulus may be circumferentially ribbed or corrugated, or formed with a peripheral concavity, convexity, or groove, or oppositely-disposed bevelled surfaces. Alternatively or in addition, the periphery may be stepped or shouldered, or have a series of radial slots; be longitudinally ribbed or corrugated; or the side-margins may have lateral radial ribs or recesses. Alternatively, the annulus may be drilled or slotted from side to side adjacent the periphery to provide free passage for the cast metal.
