Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0785101/IV (b)/1> where A is a phenolic or 1,3-dihydroxybenzenic residue. They may be made by coupling tetrazotized 4,41-diaminodiphenyl sulphide in a weakly acid medium with H acid and allowing the product to react in a weakly alkaline medium firstly with diazotized 4-nitraniline and then the phenolic compound. Specified phenolic compounds are phenol, cresols, xylenols, resorcinol and 4-methyl-1,3-dihydroxybenzene. The dyestuffs dye leather in green shades. An example is provided of the preparation of dyestuffs from certain of the above indicated reactants and the use of the dyestuffs in dyeing leather. Specification 763,064 is referred to.
