Abstract
784,807. Aerials; radio receiving sets. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1955 [Aug. 21, 1954], No. 23836/55. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (7). A aerial suitable for incorporation into the cabinet of a radio receiver comprises a conductor of a length approximately equal to half the operating wavelength wound into a continuous open-ended helix. The feeder for the aerial is connected to two tapping points positioned symmetrically on either side of the centre of the winding and spaced suitably to match the aerial and feeder. The total length of the helix may be between #/10 and #/20 and the diameter between #/100 and #/200. It is possible to damp the aerial by connecting a suitable resistance across the helix. Further helical conductors may be arranged parallel to the aerial helix to form a director and reflector. In an embodiment mounted inside a radio cabinet a non-metallic bracket 13 is secured on top of a rotatable shaft 8. This carries a rod 14 of ferromagnetic material on which are wound coils 15 and 16 for medium and long waveband reception. It also carries a ceramic rod 17 to which are glued the turns of an aerial 1 constructed according to the invention. The feeder 2 is connected symmetrically as shown. The shaft 8 carries a pulley 18 driven by rope 19 and shaft 20 which projects through the front of the cabinet so that the aerial directivity can be adjusted thereby.
