Abstract

784,147. Loud-speakers. GOODMANS INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 8, 1955 [Nov. 8, 1954], No. 32301/54. Class 40 (4). Air gaps are provided at both ends of a central magnet structure for the operation of two moving coils, part of the flux for one of the air-gaps being by-passed by a tapping of magnetic material. The gap 10, Fig. 1, for a lowfrequency loudspeaker is defined by a pole-tip 4 and an annular pole-plate 5. The gap 8 for a high-frequency loud-speaker is defined by a subsidiary pole-tip 7 and the end of the pot 1. The proportions of flux across the two gaps may be adjusted by a regulated tapping of the magnet through a ring 19 of magnetic material. The rear of the high-frequency speaker is confined by a cover 16 so that the sound passes through passages 17 in the pole-tip 7 and through a horn-like passage in the magnet 3 and pole-tip 4. In Fig. 2 the pole-tip 7a is recessed into the magnet 3a. In Fig. 3 the pole-tips 4b, 7b abut so that the flux-paths across the air gaps are in parallel.
