Abstract
784,100. Cartridge feed mechanism. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES SOC. ANON. May 12, 1955 [May 25, 1954], No. 13753/55. Class 92 Relates to cartridge feed mechanism for automatic guns, of the kind in which a toothed rotor is rotated through an angle at the firing of each round, such movement causing the cartridges to be successively pulled away from the resilient holding strips of the belt or the like. According to the invention each movement of the rotor takes place uninterruptedly through a full pitch angle, the rounds a, b, c, being subsequently thrust laterally towards the breech-block 3 by spring-urged members 40 whose spring 41 is tensioned during at least the end portion of each movement of the rotor 34. In the construction shown the gun recoils beneath a stationary magazine 9 thus causing a cam 13 on the gun to produce movements of a spring-controlled rack 17. The rack meshes with teeth on a sleeve 22 which is connected, via free wheel 23, 25, dog clutch 28, 29, hollow shaft 31, and torsion bar 32, to a tubular shaft 33 carrying the toothed wheels 34 for engaging and driving the cartridge belt. By this means a cartridge such as b, Fig. 4, is advanced at each recoil from the position shown to a point above the passage 38. During this uninterrupted movement the cartridge engages a face of the members 40 and swings the latter against the action of springs 41. The cartridge a in the waiting position is not influenced during this movement, but is subsequently pushed downwards against the breech block by the springs 41 acting through the members 40 on the cartridge b. The spring urges the cartridges a, b downwards suddenly when the breech block moves sufficiently to the rear. A further spring-controlled lever is associated with each member 40 and is engaged by a cartridge-the cartridge b of Fig. 4-towards the end of each movement of the wheels 34 to provide a braking action. Specification 696,350 is referred to.
