Abstract
Water-soluble film-forming polymers are made by polymerizing a metallo-amine salt of a vinyl monomer containing a carboxyl radical, e.g. zinc ammonium acrylate. Polymerization may be carried out in aqueous solution in the presence of potassium persulphate. Films cast from an aqueous solution of the polymer air dry to water-insolubility.ALSO:Complex zinc ammonium acrylate is made by reacting acrylic acid with zinc oxide, filtering off excess oxide, diluting the solution of zinc acrylate with water and then treating with aqueous ammonia.
