Abstract

783,431. Screw fans. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 30, 1955 [Aug. 30, 1954], No. 25126/54. Class 110 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] In an electric fan comprising an internal stator and an external rotor carrying a fan blade or blades and arranged coaxially with the stator, the stator being supported by a stationary shaft, tube or the like extending from one side only thereof, and the rotor being supported on this shaft, tube or the like by a bearing or bearings to which it is connected by way of a bearing bracket arranged partly to enclose the rotor and stator, the end of the shaft, tube or the like remote from the bearing or bearings is provided with an enlarged head on which the stator is mounted and which is centrally recessed so as to enclose at least partly a condenser, terminal block or other ancilliary equipment. The fan shown is supported from a ceiling by a rod 2 which is screwed into a connector 1. The motor stator core 4 is carried by the enlarged end 6 of a stationary shaft 3 which is secured to the connector 1 by a screw 5. Ball bearings 10, 11, separated by a spacer 13, are interposed between the shaft 3 and a hub 16 which is connected by ribs 17 and an outer casing 18 to the motor rotor 8. The casing may be removable from the hub 16, and the spaces between the ribs need not be entirely closed. A lower casing 19 is cut away at three points 20 to accommodate fan blades 21. An upper cover 22 is provided. A condenser 24 and terminal block 25 are carried by a support 26. In addition, a lighting fitting and a pull-cord switch for the lighting fitting or the fan may be mounted within the enlarged shaft end 6. According to the Provisional Specification, the shaft 3 is screwed into the connector 1 in addition to being secured by the screw 5.
