Abstract

782,521. Actuation of switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 26, 1955 [Jan. 26, 1954], No. 2378/55. Class 38 (5). A switch 9, which may be that of Specification 564,681, has an actuating member biased to a normal position and held in a second position by a spring member, until the latter is overcome by force applied by an operating member movable in response to changes in a physical condition. As shown, the switchactuating member 14 is normally urged downwards but is held in its upper full line position by a blade spring 17 mounted at 20 on an adjustable member 15. The other end of spring 17 engages the operating member 8 which is pivoted at 28 and is attached by a wire 7 to two weights 6 suspended in a liquid. As the liquid level rises and falls the apparent weight of the weights varies and hence the force applied to spring 17 by the member 8 is varied, so as to actuate the switch 9. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the operating member is movable rectilinearly by a float and is held in a central position by a coil spring arranged in an opening in the operating member and compressed between spring seats which abut the ends of the opening and the parts 11, 24 of the base.
