Abstract
782,399. Railway permanent way. SOC. LA LONGRINE. Sept. 14, 1955, No. 26303/55. Class 104 (2). A rail track assembly comprises longitudinally extending sleepers 1 of prestressed or unstressed concrete or other material transversely aligned and longitudinally spaced in pairs inclined inwardly towards the track centre with suitably curved cross-stays 3 arranged at right angles to the track axis in spaces between the sleepers to maintain the rail spacing and inclination, the fixing of the rails to the sleepers and cross-stays being effected by clamps. The rails 2 are tilted inwardly, Fig. 2, at a tangent of about <SP>1</SP>/20<SP>th</SP> are offset relative to the centre of the sleepers 1, the length l 1 being <SP>9</SP>/ 20 th the total sleeper width. The cross-stays may be formed in two portions 3a, Fig. 1, joined at the centre by bolts with the interposition at 11 of an insulating sheath. The rail 2 is held in a recess 4 in the sleeper 1 with or without the interposition of a metallic or elastic pad 5 by a clamping member 6. The cross-stays 3 are clamped to the rail foot by clamps 14 held in position by nuts and bolts, the heads 16 of which are square to engage the downwardlyextending flange of the angle-iron cross-stays 3 to prevent turning. A pad 13, recessed at each end to embrace the bolts and the clamps 14 may be of insulating material when the rails are to be electrically insulated. The pads 13 and the clamps 14 may be made of treated wood, glass, or polyester.
