Classes 79(2) and 79(5) [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] In a vehicle a change speed gear input shaft 18 is coaxial with and connectible with an engine operated shaft 39 through a two speed clutch assembly 68, and the shaft 39 is connected with a power takeoff shaft 59 through gearing 57, 58 by-passing the assembly 68, which comprises a planetary gear cage 67 rotatably mounting two fixedly interconnected planet gears 71, 76 of different diameter, the gears meshing respectively with sun gears 70, 77 on the shafts 39, 18, the cage 67 being normally connected by a clutch 81 with the shaft 18 and provided with a band brake 100 for holding the cage against rotation when the clutch is released, whereby the planet and sun gears rotate in unison and transmit torque without speed change when the clutch is operative and the torque is transmitted between the sun gears with speed change determined by the planet gears when the clutch is released. As shown the engine flywheel 38 drives through a clutch 44 to the shaft 39. The gear 57 on the shaft 39 meshes with a gear 61 and the gear 58. The power take-off shaft 59 extends through the countershaft 22 of a main change speed gear. The gear 61 is carried by a shaft 62 bevel gear connected with a transversely extending belt pulley shaft 65. The band brake (see Group XXXIV) and the clutch 81 (see Group XXIV) are under the conjoint control of a pedal 93, lost motion being provided in the connection between the brake and pedal whereby the pedal can be operated to disconnect the shaft 39 from the main change speed gear so that the latter gear can be controlled without effecting the drive of the power take-off shafts 59, 65. The pedal 93 is provided with teeth 98 which can be engaged by a pawl 97 operated by a toe latch 95 so that the pedal can be locked in either of its clutch disengaged and engaged. positions.
