781,791. Separating liquid particles from gases; external flues of steam boilers. GREEN & SON, Ltd., E. Feb. 23, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1955], No. 5433/55. Classes 123(2) and 123(3) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a steam generating plant in a wood pulp mill comprising a boiler fired with black liquor from the digesters and wherein the boiler flue gases which contain semimolten particles of sodium salts pass serially through an economizer, an air heater and an electrostatic precipitator before discharging into the stack, a separator device for removing the said particles is provided in the gas flow path between the boiler exit and the economizer, the device comprising a group of vertical, hollow members 1 curved in cross-section and disposed in staggered relation with their concave surfaces presented to the gas stream. Particles impacting the curved surfaces fall into a hopper 2 or adhere to the surfaces, a mechanical scraping apparatus 3 with driving gear being provided to enable the adhering matter on the inner and outer surfaces of the members 1 to be cleaned off periodically.
