781,659. Charging under pressure. SPALDING, D. B. March 29, 1956 '[April 1, 1955], No. 9553/55. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] An I.C. engine E is supercharged by a pressure exchanger 1 (see Group XXVIII). A by-pass valve 16 is provided between the inlet and exhaust manifolds which include blow-off valves 17, 18. Inlet air may be expanded in the engine cylinders. The exchanger may be driven by the engine, electrically or by the gas flow.
