780,837. Modifying pitching of ships. RESEARCH INTERESTS, Ltd. (Steinen, C. von den and Oster, L. E. W. Montrose-). Feb. 22, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1955], No. 5361/56. Divided out of 780,836. Class 113. In ships propelled by blade-wheel propellers mounted to rotate about the same or different horizontal axes at opposite sides of the hull and adjacent the bow of the ship, the ship carries a pitch detector and means for automatically controlling the blades of the blade-wheel propellers in accordance with the response of the detector to produce a thrust counteracting the pitching movement. From a narrow extension 1 on the bow of the ship, blade-wheel propellers 2, 3 extend horizontally and at right-angles to the longitudinal direction of the ship and are driven at equal speeds through gearing 5 by a motor 4. A servomotor 6 controls the pitch of the blades in accordance with movement of a pitch detector 8 which actuates a control unit 9 connected to the servomotor. When two or more , pairs of propellers are used, their axes are disposed one above another.
