Abstract

A plaster bandage comprises a textile material coated with a mixture which is substantially non-absorbent to X-rays and which comprises an emulsion of hard synthetic resin, which, after drying of the emulsion, is present as small particles, and a binding-agent to fix the particles to the textile after drying, the hard synthetic resin being soluble in a solvent and giving a hard rigid supporting dressing on removal of the solvent. Loosely woven fabric, e.g. cotton, is dipped in an emulsion of a hard synthetic resin, e.g. polymethyl-methacrylate, polyisobutylmethacrylate or polystyrene, and a binding agent based on a soft synthetic resin, e.g. polyethylacrylate, polynonylmethacrylate, or polybutylacrylate, and dried. Before, during or after application to the body the coated fabric is treated with a solvent, e.g. acetone, ethylacetate with or without a paraffin hydrocarbon or a fluorochlorohydrocarbon which on evaporation leaves a rigid dressing.
