Abstract

780,434. Turbine and compressor rotors. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Aug. 22, 1955 [Sept. 28, 1954], No. 28027/54. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] In a turbine or compressor rotor comprising a plurality of blade discs in splined connection with a shaft portion of uniform diameter, the sets of splines are formed to permit axial sliding of a disc over at least one set of shaft splines and thereafter interference fit with another set of splines. Blade discs 13a, 13b, 13c of the type described in Specification 715,044 are in splined connection 18a, 11a, 18b, 11b, 18c, 11c, with the shaft 10, these sets of splines being of interference fit. To permit assembly alternate splines 11b are omitted and the corresponding spaces between alternate splines 18b are enlarged so that disc 13b can be slid easily over splines 11a, rotated one spline pitch and engage with interference with splines 11b. In a modification, two splines are omitted from the shaft and one from the disc, and in further modifications the splines are omitted from the disc and the spaces increased on the shaft. Specification 621,545 also is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
