Class 56 For delivering substantially bubble-free molten glass to the working compartment of a glass furnace, the lateral walls 2 of the fining compartment 3 are provided with apertures 11 having hollow plugs 12. These apertures are positioned at the height at which the temperature of the glass is at a maximum; it is shown that this level is somewhat below the surface of the glass in the fining chamber and that the bubbles congregate at the relatively cooler zone 9 of this level; it is from this zone that small quantities of the bubbly glass pass through the apertures. The viscosity of the glass may be controlled by a heater 19 to control the flow, or the glass may be discharged into a chamber having a regulable outlet.
