Abstract

779,828. Welding by fusion. PRESSED STEEL CO., Ltd. Nov. 16, 1955 [Oct. 20, 1954], No. 30166/54. Class 83 (4). In welding two aluminium or aluminium alloy tubes 11, 12 in line the weld is supported by a tubular backing 13 of a metal of higher melting point than the tubes such as stainless steel. Arc or gas welding but preferably argon shielded arc-welding is used. The backing 13 may be split longitudinally. The tube ends may be flared equally or unequally and may abut or overlap. As shown in Fig. 6, the ends are flanged to provide metal for the weld. As shown in Fig. 7, a tube 35 is welded to a tube 34 formed between two welded plates 31, 32 forming part of an aluminium refrigerator.
