Abstract

Dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0779615/IV(b)/1> wherein n is 0 or 1, X and Y are each a hydrogen atom or a substituent grouping other than a water-solubilizing grouping, and R is a COR1, COOR1 or SO2R1 grouping where R1 is a hydrocarbon residue; a substituted hydrocarbon residue or a hydrocarbon residue containing oxygen atoms linking different hydrocarbon units containing at least 2 carbon atoms, the group R and at least one of the groups X and Y totalling at least 8 carbon atoms and at least one of X, Y and R containing a terminal grouping or halogen substituted hydrocarbon grouping of at least 4 carbon atoms are made by coupling the diazotized phenoxy or benzyloxy aminobenzene compound in an alkaline medium with the appropriate H acid derivative.
