Class 56 A machine for the moulding of glass objects, e.g. skirted insulators a, Fig. 1. comprises a mould 1 on a table 6 which can be moved from a-loading position under a feeder 7, through the operative position shown to a discharging position Z, and a vertically movable press heat arrangement 31 in which a turret 77, 78 is rotatably mounted the turret carrying two plungers 2, 2a which may be used alternatively. The member 31 forms the lower end of a cylinder 30 having a piston 29 therein, a sleeve 28 integral with the piston being secured in a plate 25 which is slidable on rods 54, 55 and is secured to a hollow shaft 16. The hollow shaft 16 is secured in a stirrup 15 which can be vertically reciprocated by a fluid-pressure operated lever' 18 and the shaft houses another shaft 42 on the lower end of which a screw-forming punch 3 is secured, this shaft being rotatably and axially-slidably mounted within the shaft 16. In operation, the framework 15, 25 is lowered by lever 18, so that the collar 4 contacts the mould 1. the plunger 2 is depressed by the admission of fluid-pressure to the cylinder 30 and the punch 3 is further lowered by the synchronized drive of a shaft 53 which, through gears 52, 51, 50, rotates a gearwheel 49 having a key 48 engaging a longitudinal recess 47 in the externally-threaded shaft 42 which engages in a nut 43 rigid with the shaft 16. Swinging movement of the turret 77, 78 may be manually controlled or may be effected by an electric motor.
