Abstract

777,107. Valve bags. QUELCH, H. A. Aug. 4, 1954 [Aug. 4, 1953 ; Oct. 27, 1953], Nos. 21455/53 and 29702/53. Class 94(2). A valve for a plastic bag comprises two layers of plastic, e.g., polythene sheet material in the form of a flattened tube with its ends joined by a pair of liquid-tight seams 2 such that the layers between the seams are urged together to form a self-sealing aperture 14. The layers are bead welded at 5 to enhance the sealing of the aperture 14 and welded together and to the open mouth of the bag at 12 to leave an outer aperture 13. To empty the bag a tube is inserted through the aperture 13 to urge the layers of material apart and open the aperture 14. The bag may be filled before sealing or, after sealing, by means of a tube inserted through the aperture 13. The bag may be made of natural or synthetic rubber, polythene sheet or paper or textile material suitably impregnated or laminated.
