Abstract
777,071. Spindle drag devices. FAIRBAIRN LAWSON COMBE BARBOUR, Ltd. Oct. 19, 1955 [Dec. 3, 1954], No. 35016/54. Class 120 (2). In a textile spinning machine in which yarn is wound on to a bobbin by a flyer, the bobbin being caused to rotate by the tension in the yarn, the bobbin is provided with a support having a friction coupling to a seating which is connected to the flyer driving means by a positive drive, which causes or allows rotation of the seating at a lower rate than that of the associated bobbin. In the arrangement shown, the flyer 1 is driven from a pulley 2 from a main drive shaft 28. The bobbin 3 is mounted on a support 5 which slides on a "dead" spindle (not shown) fixed to the lifter rail 4. The support 5 rests on a facing 6 of suitable material fixed on a brake seating 7 which is rotated by a pair of spiral gears 9 from a shaft 11. The shaft 11 is driven through a clutch 19, bevel wheels 20, shaft 22, bevel wheels 26, shaft 27, and "change" gear 29 from the shaft 28. The drives are arranged so that the speed of rotation of the seating 7 is less than that of the bobbin 3 so as to produce a " drag " thereon. Rotation of the seating 7 reduces the power required from the shaft, 28. For bobbin doffing the handle 16 is moved to the right thus disengaging the dowels 17 from the gear box 18 and also disengaging the clutch 19, enabling the sail 4 to be lowered to the doffing position.
