Abstract
776,575. Soldering. GRISCOM-RUSSELL CO. April 22, 1955 [Aug. 23, 1954], No. 11630/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XIII] A phosphorous-nickel brazing alloy for high temperature applications as in a heat exchanger (see Group XIII) comprises nickel powder, nickel oxide or nickel carbonate, mixed into a slurry with dibasic ammonium phosphate or other suitable phosphate compound. A small amount of another metal such as iron powder may be added to the slurry. In the heat exchanger shown, the tubes 17 and corrugated sheets 20, 21 provided respectively within each tube and between adjacent tubes are initially coated (e.g. by dipping) with the slurry. The component parts of the heat exchanger are then assembled as shown, and heated to fuse the brazing alloy which forms a coating on the corrugated sheets, flows into the joints, e.g. 23, between the corrugated sheets and the tube walls and also forms joints 24 between the tubes 17 and tube plates 10 of the heat exchanger supplementing the edge welded joints 19 between these parts.
