Abstract
The invention comprises Py.C - benzoyl-4 - amino - 1.9 - anthrapyridone - 2 - sulphonic acid and alkali metal salts thereof, and methods of preparing them by (a) reaction of the corresponding 2 - halogen body with alkali metal sulphite, or (b) by hydrolysis of the corresponding 4 - alkylsulphonyl - or arylsulphonyl - amino bodies. The products dye or print wool, silk, nylon or polyacrylonitrile fibres. Examples describe (a) the hydrolysis with sulphuric acid of Py.C - benzoyl - 4 - p - tolyl - or phenyl - or ethyl - sulphonylamino - 1.9 - anthrapyridone - 2 - sulphonic acid and (b) the treatment of Py.C - benzoyl - 2 - bromo - 4 - amino - 1.9 anthrapyridone with aqueous sodium sulphite. Examples describe the dyeing of polyacrylonitrile staple fibre with the sodium salt of Py.C - benzoyl - 4 - amino - 1.9 - anthrapyridone - 2 - sulphonic acid and the printing of polyacrylonitrile fabric with the lithium salt, both operations in presence of copper and copper sulphate.
