Abstract

775,528. Soldering. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 22, 1955 [Aug. 25, 1954], No. 24134/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XI] In a soldering device for soldering objects by means of a gas heated in the device, having one or more tubes each provided with one or more apertures through which gas passes, the tubes form resistances in an electric circuit. In an embodiment a chromium-nickel tube 4, Fig. 2, closed at 5, has four apertures 8-11 and is connected in an A.C. or D.C. circuit by wires 12, 13 to be heated by current flow therethrough. Air is supplied by a pipe 7 and flows out of the apertures, being hotter at each succeeding aperture. Capacitors to which wires are to be soldered are moved along the tube above the apertures, being thereby preheated, until above aperture 11 where the air is about 400‹ C. soldering is effected with a resin-filled solder stick 14. In a modification a hand tool comprises two brass tubes 31, Fig. 3, secured in insulating discs 28, 32 and a U-shaped chromium nickel tube 29 fitted in the ends of the tubes 31. Supply wires 26 are connected to the top of the tubes 31 and air supplied through the handle flows via the tubes 31 to emerge from an aperture in the bend of the U tube as a jet heated to about 400‹ C. Nitrogen or argon may be used instead of air.
