Abstract
774,326. Porous, heat-reflective coated fabrics; ironing. GLATT, H. March 16, 1955, No. 7723/55. Drawings to Specification. Classes 138 (2) and 140. A ventilated cloth of improved surface, smoothness and heat-reflectivity comprises a closely woven textile and an organic resin coating applied substantially uniformly on one surface only by knife coating in amount of 0.3-1.4 oz. dry solid per square yard and depositep mainly in the interstices of the textile but insufficiently deposited to completely fill the interstices, so that small vent openings are formed in the resin coating in the interstices. The textile may be rayon, cotton, partially acetylated cotton, nylon, polyacrylonitrile, or polyester. 4-12 per cent of a reflective pigment, e.g. aluminium, is included in the coating composition. In making porous ironing pad covers the resin must withstand at least 500‹ F., and cotton drill is coated with an organic solvent solution of polyvinyl butyral with or without phenol-, urea- or melamineformaldehyde, or glyoxal resin for cross linking. Suitable plasticizers, fillers and organic solvents are exemplified. After drying the coating by heating rolls a light coating of an aqueous emulsion of a dimethyl silicone may be applied by flannel wetted with the emulsion, but the limitation as regards weight and incomplete filling of the interstices is still observed. In making porous interliners for garments rayon satin is coated with the above resins or with polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinylidene chloride, or alkyds.
