Abstract
773,259. Soot-blowers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. June 24, 1955 [June 25, 1954], No. 18271/55. Class 99(2) In a fluid heat-exchange apparatus having an inner partition wall 24 separating regions 31, 32 subject to hot fluid flow, means are provided for giving access from the exterior of an outer wall 22 at a side of the region 31 remote from the wall 24 to the other region 32, those means including a tube 26, affording a passageway, secured at the inner end thereof to the wall 24 and extending from that wall across the region 31 to an opening in the wall 22. A fluid-tight joint permits relative movement in the direction of the length of the tube between the tube and the wall 22, the outer end of the tube being closeable by removable sealing means. The tube 26 houses, for example, the cleaning fluid supply tube 27 of a soot-blower. The regions 31, 32 may be respectively the open gas pass and the convection heating gas pass of a tubulous vapour generator. As shown, the tube 26 is supported from superheater tubes 28 by spaced tube ties 28a and is slidably engaged in an annular flange 18 within a tubular member 17 rigidly attached to a reinforcing plate 20 of the casing 21 of the generator. A chamber 19 is formed between the member 17 and the tube 26, a lantern ring 14 of H- section and provided with radial holes 36 being disposed between and with pliable packing 13 in the chamber. Within the tube 26 is a cleaning fluid supply tube 27, supporting a nozzle 25 located in the pass 32 and. adjacent the wall 24, which is rotated by drive mechanism 1 connected by flanges 8 to the tube 26. A chamber 15 is formed between the member 17 and the tube 26 and gases are prevented from flowing from the pass 31 into that chamber by air supplied by a forced draught fan through a conduit 2 connected to a pipe line 6. Provided in the wall of the tube 26 are a number of obliquely inclined passages 12, air being supplied through the holes 36 in the ring 14 to those passages to prevent the escape to atmosphere of gases from the pass 32 when the soot-blower drive mechanism is removed.
