The response of a magnetic powder coup. ling or brake to changes in excitation voltage is rendered more rapid by providing at least one of the magnetic members 10 with radial cuts C to reduce eddycurrents. The driven member comprises a pair of caps 19 in annular air-gaps 13, 14 between magnetic rings 3, 4, 9 excited by a coil 6 and secured together by bolts 2. Specification 649,553, [Group XXXIV], is referred to.
