Abstract

772,621. Electron microscopes. KABUSHIKIKAISHA NIHONDENSHI-KOGAKU KENKYUSHO. Aug. 4, 1954 [April 12, 1954], No. 22694/54. Class 39(1). In an electron microscope the specimen holder 15 is enclosed with a heater 13 within a cylinder 37, and a heat shield 50 is provided between the cylinder and the objective pole pieces 9. Provision is also made for supplying gas, preferably intermittently to the specimen. A flexible gas pipe 35 projects through a cover 38 at one end of the cylinder. The gas is withdrawn through a hole in the cover 38, bellows 43 and a pipe 42. Chamber 46 surrounding the cylinder is evacuated through pipe 47. Specimen holder 15 is supported in a cylindrical insulator 14 which is detachably fitted into the cylinder 37. The insulator 14 has arm 17 by means of which the specimen may be adjusted in both a linear and a rotary direction. The arm 17 is secured to a hollow rod which extends through flexible bellows outside the microscope column. A thermocouple 31 is attached to the specimen holder 15.
