A pile of plates is enclosed by a cylindrical wrapper 3 of paste-board or similar material which is moistened so that it shrinks after application and grips the plates tightly. The upper and lower edges 6, 5 of the wrapper are folded over the upper and lower plates 2, 1 of the pile.
