Abstract

771,040. Electric measuring systems. FIELDEN ELECTRONICS, Ltd. June 27, 1955, No. 18474/55. Class 40 (1). Apparatus for measuring a pressure difference comprises two similar, liquid-filled containers 2, 3 communicating via a tube 4, each container enclosing a bellows 5, 6 connected via ports 19, 20 to the pressures whose difference it is required to determine, the upper part of the bellows comprising diaphragms 7, 8 attached via rods 9, 10 to the cores 11, 12 of similar differential transformers. The secondary windings of each transformer are connected in series opposition to give zero output when the pressures inside the bellows are equal, and the two pairs of secondary windings are joined in series to give a voltage proportional to pressure difference. Stoppers 17, 18 in partitions 15, 16 prevent an excess pressure being transmitted from one bellows to the other. The apparatus does not respond to changes of temperature, leakage of liquid, &c. which produce equal effects in both containers. The upper limit of frequency response is predetermined by an adjustable restriction in the tube 4.
