Abstract
770,445. Gauging tiles &c. BRAYWOOD ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and HOLLOWOOD, R. R. April .7, 1955 [April 8, 1954], No. 10286/54. Class 106 (2). Tiles or other flat articles to be tested for convexity or concavity are continuously fed by a conveyer 13 over non-displaceable rollers 11 between which a displaceable measuring roller 40 is arranged to press against the face of the tile &c. and by its movement actuate indicating or tile-marking devices. As shown, the roller 40 engages the under-surface of the tiles which are moved over the rollers 11 by an upper roller 28 and belt 36. The roller 40 is eccentrically mounted on a pivot 41 and carries a spring-loaded arm 42 moving over a contact block 43 actuating switches which operate a stamping roller 52 to mark the tiles according to the degree of concavity or convexity. As the tiles approach the rollers 11 they raise two levers 46 to open the circuit to the contact block, and to ensure that the reading is taken at the centre of each tile the levers 46 are so arranged that the circuit is closed only when, as shown, the tile contacts one lever only. When the tile has passed the central position the second lever 46 returns to its normal position and opens the circuit, whereupon a spring lifts the stamping roller clear of the tile.
