Abstract
The invention comprises p-aminosalicylic acid derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0770306/IV(b)/1> (wherein one X represents H and the other SO3Na, SO3K or COOH), and the preparation thereof by reacting a 2 : 3-dichloronaphthoquinone of the formula <FORM:0770306/IV(b)/2> with an alkali metal salt of p-aminosalicylic acid. The products are useful as tuberculostatic and sterilizing agents. In examples, the sodium salt of p-aminosalicylic acid is heated in aqueous solution with (1) 2 : 3-dichloro-1 : 4-naphthoquinone-5- o -6-sulphonic acid sodium salt; and (2) 2 : 3-dichloronaphthoquinone-5-carboxylic acid.
