Abstract
769,893. Hydraulic clutches. THOMASTIK, H. June 24, 1955 [June 25, 1954; July 28, 1954], No. 18360/55. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic coupling for vehicles comprises a casing 3 rotated by an input shaft 33 and having blades 20, and members 7, 8 splined to output shafts 1, 2 and having blades 17, 18. Weights 12 slide in slots 14 in a disc 5 fast with the casing 3, and on rotation of the casing are used outwards centrifugally to move the members 7, 8 along the shafts 1, 2, against the action of springs, to bring the blades on the members and the casing closer together and thus reduce slip. Intermediate members 26 may be provided, springs 29, 30 being interposed between the casing, the members 26, and the members 7, 8; the end faces of these parts are covered with clutch linings 31. On starting, as the input shaft rotates the casing with increasing speed, the weights 12 force the members 7, 8 outwards until the members 26 are first clutched to the casing or to the members 7, 8 (depending on the relative strengths of the springs 29, 30) and then, finally, all the parts are clutched together. Cooling fins 23 and/or a jacket for coolant may be provided. The coupling liquid may be circulated through a cooler.
