Abstract
An alloy steel, particularly for use at sub-zero temperatures, has a composition within the following range: C 0.02-1.15 per cent, Mn 0.2-1.2 per cent, Si 0.05-0.6 per cent, Cu 0.2-1.2 per cent, Cr 0.25-1.5 per cent, Ni 1.0-5.0 per cent, Al 0.03-0.3 per cent, N 0.01-0.025 per cent, Ta 0.04-0.25 per cent, Fe and impurities the balance. The Ta content in excess of 0.04 per cent may be replaced by Nb, the Ta and Nb together amounting to 0.05-0.25 per cent. Mo may also be present up to 0.5 per cent.
