Abstract
769,816. Supporting and mounting bearings. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. May 13, 1955 [May 13, 1954], No. 13906/55. Class 12 (1). A bearing 3 is mounted in an hydraulic device which automatically restores the bearing to a desired central position when a predetermined out-of-centre movement has been exceeded. The bearing 3 is carried in a ring 4 which is mounted in a ring 7 by spring elements 6. Below the bearing, the ring 7 merges into a piston rod 9 carrying a piston 10 disposed in a cylindrical recess in the housing 8. The rod 9 has a central bore 12 into which extends a sleeve 13 which is screwed at its lower end into the housing 8. A slide valve 22 is disposed within the sleeve 13 and is attached to the ring 4 by a rod 24. Vertical upward movement of the bearing 3 beyond a predetermined amount causes slide valve 22 to move upwardly a corresponding amount and permit fluid supplied to an admission port 14 to pass through channel 15<SP>1</SP> in the piston and port 18 to the space above the piston 10. This causes the piston to move downwardly carrying with it the ring 4 and bearing 3. Fluid beneath the piston 10 is exhausted through a port 19 in the sleeve 13. Similarly on downward movement of the bearing the piston 10 is forced upwardly by fluid pressure to restore the bearing to its former position. For securing, at will, the bearing mounting in its central position, the ring 4 is located between spring pressed gripping rings 30. Oil under pressure supplied at 381 acts on pistons 37, 38 in a chamber 36 which force the rings 30 apart to give the bearing radial freedom. The ring 7 may be fitted with two such hydraulic centring devices disposed at right angles.
