Abstract

A cosmetic or hair preparation comprises a monohydric alcohol which is methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol or a mixture thereof, a saturated higher fatty alcohol and a saturated higher fatty alcohol sulphonate in the form of a gelatinized paste. In the example, a mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols and lanolin is melted on a water bath with sodium cetostearyl sulphonate, water added and an emulsion formed at 90 DEG C. When cold 96 per cent ethanol is incorporated. Such a paste with or without the lanolin forms the base for (a) a hair preparation to which may be added cholesterol, chloral hydrate, menthol, lecithin, burdock oil and/or vitamins (b) a shaving preparation with or without menthol, alum, citric acid and/or lactic acid (c) a face cream to which may be added camphor, benzoic acid and/or borax. The preparations may be suitably perfumed.
