Abstract
768,384. Fish heading. CAMERON, A. D. Nov. 3, 1955 [Nov. 5, 1954], No. 32052/54. Class 28(2) The head of a cod &c. is cut along the line b-b by a pair of rotary concave disc knives 8 between which the head is drawn down by a pair of serrated rollers 8 on the knife shafts 9. The fish is hand located longitudinally by its pectoral fins, the head being first hand placed so that these fins are ahead of slots 27 in a yielding guide 12 and then drawn back by its tail until the fins are engaged and then drawn back whereby its fins are spread out by a sharp edge on the slots 27 and so become located therein. After the first lower part of the cut b the tail is let go whereby the fish swings down about its head as a pivot so that the latter top part of the cut b is located to minimize the loss of flesh. Below the cutters 8 is a stationary V- shaped cutter 23 which removes any skin connecting the head to the body as it passes down one side or other of the point of the cutter 23. The support of the cutter 23 is inclined down and away from the knives 8 so that the fish is free to swing down. The serrated rollers 24 are driven by the knives 8 through a resilient coupling 25.
