Abstract
766,897. Chains. RENOLD CHAINS, Ltd., [formerly RENOLD & COVENTRY CHAIN CO., Ltd.], and POWSEY, E. April 12, 1955 [April 14, 1954], No. 11070/54. Class 24. Seals are provided to limit the escape of lubricant from the ends of a bush of a roller chain. The chain shown comprises outer side plates 23 connected by a pin 11 passing through a bush 17 connecting inner side plates 22. A grease nipple 13 is screwed into an axial bore 12 connected by two radial bores 14 and 15 to the bearing surface of the pin 11. The bush 17 has two apertures 18 and 19 to admit lubricant to the roller 20. Two seals in the form of rings 24 of rubber or other resilient material are nipped between the ends of the bush 17 and the outer side plates 23. Two or more rings may be provided at each end of the bush. The seals may alternatively be in the form of resilient dished metal washers. The ends of the bush 17 may project beyond the inner side plates 22, in which case the seals are located around the ends of the bush and are nipped between the inner and outer side plates 22 and 23.
