Abstract
766,883. Gas turbines. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1954 [Dec. 23, 1953], No. 35699/63. Class 110 (3). In a gas turbine, a cooling mixture of air and an atomized liquid, e.g. water, is introduced to the blades through the roots and is exhausted through the blade tips. As shown, the air and liquid are supplied through tubes 25, 28 respectively to chamber 17 formed of the fixed structure 26 and the rotor disc 10, joined at the seal 24. The liquid enters through the atomizing orifices 27. The mixture reaches the blade 11 through the passage 16 and passes to the exhaust holes in the blade tips through the passages 18.
