Abstract
766,773. Reinforced concrete; paving. BRITISH. REINFORCED CONCRETE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. Feb. 4, 1955 [Feb 19, 1954], No. 4880/54. Class 20(4) In the laying of con. crete roads and runways, the metal reinforcement fabric is supported, during the application of the concrete, at the required height above the bottom of the concrete, by arms which are withdrawn, after consolidation of the concrete, for use on another, e.g., the next, section of road. Fig. 2 shows the metal reinforcement fabric 11 supported on blades 10 which are tapered from, say, four inches to two inches, to facilitate withdrawal from the concrete. The blades 10 are in pairs, each pair being rigidly connected to a V-shaped draw bar 12, the assembly being supported by rollers 15 which are adjustable vertically to determine the height of the reinforcement. The spacing of the pairs of blades is determined by the width of the road, this spacing being permitted by the attachments of the draw bars 12 to a cross-member 16 which is mounted, at each end, on wheels 22 running on a track 24. The attachments each comprise a clamp 17 having tightening bolts 19 which serve as a pivotal connection for brackets 20 on the draw bars 12. The,brackets 20 are angularly positioned by screws 21. An operating platform 27 is carried on the cross member 16. The reinforcement-supporting equipment may be provided with its own traction power, or may be coupled to the concreting machine 23 to move therewith. The tendency of the falling concrete to depress the blades 10 by pivoting on the rollers 15, may be countered by supporting the reinforcement, when it is in the form of a roll, upon the draw-bars 12. Alternatively, the cross member 16 may be sealed and filled with water. When expansion joints are to be provided, suitable prefabricated shuttering is used just after the rollers.15 have passed the point where the joint is to be. Alternatively, a tilting arrangement could be provided for lifting the draw bars and blades over the expansion joint shuttering,
