Abstract

Phthalocyanine lakes are made by precipitating a water-insoluble alkaline earth metal resinate in presence of a water-insoluble phthalocyanine pigment, there being also present at least 0.01 part, per part of pigment, of a 1-hydroxyethylglyoxalidine containing an 8-18 carbon atom hydrocarbon chain in 2-position or at least 0.1 part of an ammonium salt of an acid not weaker than acetic acid, or a mixture thereof. The resinate may be derived from rosin and its derivatives, tall oil, venice turpentine, ammonium, gamboge, styrax, and mastic. Ammonium salts specified are the sulphate, nitrate, acetate, and phosphate. In examples, (1) copper hexadecachlorphthalocyanine was dispersed in water, and to the dispersion was added successively ammonium chloride or 1-hydroxyethyl-2-heptadecenyl glyoxalidine, sodium rosinate solution, and barium chloride solution; (2) copper phthalocyanine was dispersed in water, both ammonium chloride and the above glyoxalidine were added and treatment continued as under (1). Calcium or strontium chloride may also be used.
