Abstract
764,538. Draught excluders. MIDDLETON, A. June 28, 1955 [April 1, 1954], No. 9532/54. Class 20(3) A draught excluder 1, Fig. 2, adapted to be fixed to the threshold 7 comprises an L-shaped base 2 providing an abutment 4 for the door 5, an upstanding resilient strip 3 being provided on the base 2 parallel to and spaced from the abutment 4, the strip 3 engaging the underside of the door when the latter is closed. As shown, a wooden or metal base 2 has a slot 10 in which the rubber strip 3 is held. The draught excluder 1 is secured by screws 6 to the threshold 7 and may have its under surface recessed to form a shoulder against which a concrete projection on the threshold may engage. The upper surface of base 2 slopes downwardly towards the exterior to provide drainage, water passing away through holes 11 in abutment 4. In a modification the strip 3 is held within the slot by means of a fillet and spaced screws. The strip may be L-shaped, the base of the strip lying against the base of a rebate in the draught excluder and being covered and held by a detachable fillet. In a further modification, Fig. 6, spaced projections 20 on the strip engage the undercut faces of a slot 19. In a further form the projections and undercut slot are continuous. In another construction the strip 3, abutment 4 and base 2 are formed as an integral rubber moulding held in a trough-shaped metal base secured to the threshold.
