Abstract
764,152. Sewing machines. RUSSELL-LACEY MANUFACTURING CO., Inc. Feb. 9, 1955 [Nov. 12, 1954], No. 3911/55. Class 112. A tufting machine comprises a reciprocating needle 26 and loopers 32, 34 operating to take tuft loops from said needle ; and an oppositely directed needle 54 disposed adjacent said loopers and reciprocated in timed relation with needle 26 in a plane laterally spaced therefrom, and loop-taking means 56 disposed adjacent needle 26 and operating substantially in said laterally spaced plane to take tuft loops from needle 54. As shown, two pairs of needles and associated loop-taking means are provided. Yarns a, which pass to the needles 26 via -tensioners 88 and guides 92, forms tuft loops on the under surface of the fabric ; while yarns m, which pass to the needles 54 via tensioners 90 and guides 94, form tuft loops on the upper surface of the fabric, the latter loops being cut by blades 58. The needles 26 are carried by needle bars 24 which are reciprocated through a crank mechanism driven from a main shaft 18. The loopers 32 and 34 are respectively mounted on rock shafts 36 and 38 which are respectively operated by eccentrics 44 and 46 mounted on a counter-shaft 48, the latter being connected by a chain 50 to shaft 18. Needles 54 are carried by needle bars 52 which are connected by links 60 and arms 62 to a rock shaft 64, the latter being connected by a rod 67 to an eccentric mounted on shaft 18. Looptaker 56 is carried by a rock shaft 78 operated by an arm 76 and rod 74 from an eccentric mounted on shaft 18. The blades 58 are carried by a rock shaft-86 which is coupled to rock shaft 78, to oscillate with the latter, by means of arms 80, 84 and a link 82.
