763,403. Indicating liquid levels. GULICH, T. Sept. 21, 1954, No. 27325/54. Class 123 (1). In a liquid contents gauge for underground fuel storage tanks, &c. B, Fig. 5, of the kind in which an open-ended tube A depending to the bottom of the tank is connected to an air pump 7 and also to a gauge proper in the form of a U-tube 1, 2 containing mercury, the U-tube is mounted on an adjustable disc 9 rotatable within a fixed casing 11 so that the gauge may be used on similar tanks of any size. As shown in Fig. 3, the disc 9 is pivoted at 10 on a diametric cross-piece 12 of the casing 11 to which cross-piece the air pump 7 is secured and upon which a rotatable twoarmed lever 17 is mounted in such a manner that normally, under the action of a spring 22, one end 19 of the lever locks the pump 7 and the other end 16 flattens and closes a hose piece 6, the latter being disposed between a conduit 8, connected to the tube A, and a T-piece 4 to which are connected hose pieces 3, 5 leading, respectively, to the enlarged limb 2 of the U-tube and to the pump 7. The disc has a diametrical scale 27 with two sets of graduations, one for circular and the other for square tanks, which are calibrated by the user after adjustment of the dial to the size of the associated tank, this adjustment being determined by a second, peripheral, scale 26 on the dial and a coacting index 25 on the dial casing 11.
