A multi-daylight press 1, Fig. 1, has associated therewith a charging frame 3. and a discharging frame 14, each of which is adapted to support slab-like workpieces in spaced, superposed relation corresponding to the daylights of the press, is movable vertically to facilitate charging and discharging and has mounted therein a member which can be moved to engage all the workpieces at one time and feed them into or from the press. Charging trays 2, supplied consecutively with workpieces by an arrival track 4, rest on shelves in the loading frame 3 and are pushed simultaneously on to corresponding shelves in the press 1 by a vertical bar 13 which is attached at either end to endless chains 11 and 12, driven at the same speed by a motor (not shown), around sprockets 7. . . 10 and 71 ... 101, Fig. 2, mounted on the upper and lower surfaces 5 and 6 of the frame. The bar 13 remains in contact with the charging trays while it passes along the central axis of the loading frame, and returns along the outside of the frame when the trays are in place in the press. The unloading frame 14 carries a similar device modified in that the vertical bar 17 has pivoted thereto spring-biased lever arms 20 and 21 which carry a roller 22 mounted parallel to the bar, which can engage in hooks 18 formed on the right-hand ends of the charging trays (Fig. 2). When the bar 17 reaches the sprockets 23, 24 the charging trays are in position on the unloading frame and the roller snaps out of engagement with the hooks as it returns to repeat the cycle.
