Abstract

761,864. Shirt &c. front closures. CLUETT, PEABODY & CO., Inc. May 6, 1954 [May 7, 1953], No. 12736/53. Class 141. A garment closure for shirt fronts &c. comprises overlapping front panels, a marginal strip of the outer panel being folded back between the two panels, and a reinforcing fabric strip of approximately the same width as the marginal strip inserted between the outer panel and the folded back portion and secured to the latter by lines of stitching, buttonholes being formed through the superposed layers of material. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the free edge 6a of the marginal strip 6 and the free edge of the reinforcing strip 8 are turned in before being stitched together at 9. In a modified form (Fig. 5, not shown) the reinforcing strip is turned in to form a double layer of the same width as the strip 6. Alternatively the marginal strip 6 and the reinforcing strip may each have a selvage at their free edge which is not turned in (Fig. 8 not shown). In the form shown in Fig. 6 the free edge of the reinforcing strip 15 is enclosed between the marginal strip 6 and the turned in portion 6a. In a further modification of this (Fig. 7 not shown), the turned in portion 6a extends across to the fold line 7.
