Abstract
761,644. Winches for grab-buckets. ETABLISSEMENTS DE CLIPPELEIR. Dec. 9, 1954 [Dec. 11, 1953], No. 35642/54. Class 78 (5). The operating cable 12 and the raising cable 2 of a grab-bucket are worked by separate motors 13, 3 provided with electromagnetic brakes 9, 5 and reduction gears 14, 4, one of the motors incorporating a slipping (e.g. hydraulic or powder) clutch 21 whereby the operating cable is maintained always under tension. Motor 13 is a light two-speed motor which, when both motors are driven in the raising direction, is driven at the higher speed, the result being that operating cable 12 is maintained taut, clutch 21 slipping. When both motors are driven in the lowering direction motor 13 is driven at the lower speed so that likewise. cable 12 is maintained taut by the slippage of clutch 21. Thus tension is maintained in the operating cable whereby the grab cannot open when being raised or lowered.
