Abstract

761,284. Chicken brooders. WESTERN, L. G. May 27, 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 16753/54. Class 5(2). [Also in Group XI] An electric heating device for livestock, e.g. young chickens, includes two reflector members each comprising upper and lower " skin" portions 10, 11 having fibreglass packed between them and secured to longitudinal members 16, Fig. 5 (not shown). End plates 14 have heating elements 20, 21 of nickelchrome wire interwoven with fibreglass fixed to them and are pivoted to supporting plates 25 connected by a tube 26. A thermostat 22 is mounted on one of the reflectors which are linked at each end by toggles 36 to permit adjustment of the reflectors from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 3. The portions 10, 11, the end plates 14 and the longitudinal members 16 may be of light alloy. The device is adjustably supported by a cord 29 and may be used as a space heater.
